Introducing Girls in Old Gold: A Female-Focussed Supporters Group for Wolves Fans

Introducing Girls in Old Gold: A Female-Focused Supporters Group for Wolves Fans

There’s something special about being a Wolves supporter. The pride, the history, the noise, the togetherness on matchday—football has a unique power to unite people. But for too long, many women have felt like they’ve had to “prove” they belong in football spaces, or keep their opinions to themselves.

That’s why we’re proud to launch Girls in Old Gold: a female-focused supporter group for Wolves fans, built to amplify women’s voices and create a welcoming community of like-minded women—whether you support the men’s team, the women’s team, or Wolves as a whole.

Our mission: amplify, support, and empower

Girls in Old Gold is a space where female fans are celebrated and supported.
We’re here to:

  • Amplify female voices at Wolves and across the fanbase
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive community where women can connect and belong
  • Represent women’s perspectives as part of the wider Wolves supporter conversation
  • Advocate for women in football—and challenge sexism before it grows into discrimination

We believe in the power of football to inspire and bring people together, and we want more women to experience the pride, passion, and magic of being a Wolves supporter—confidently and unapologetically.

Starting with a podcast—by women, for women (and for every Wolves fan)

To kick things off, we’re launching a Girls in Old Gold podcast, featuring a panel made up entirely of women. From what we understand, this is something that hasn’t really been done before at Premier League level in this format—and we’re excited to help change that.

The goal is simple: give women a platform, create space for opinions that are often overlooked, and show that knowledgeable, passionate Wolves discussion comes in many voices.

Expect honest match reactions, opinions, debate, laughter, and the kind of football chat you want to be part of—whether you’re home or away, season ticket holder or new fan.

A community, not just a show

Girls in Old Gold isn’t just a podcast. It’s the start of something bigger.

We’re building a community of female Wolves fans and will be launching a Facebook group shortly so women can connect, share matchday experiences, discuss the club, and support each other—online and at future in-person events.

Our aim is to host inclusive events, create opportunities for women to be visible in supporter culture, and ensure women’s perspectives are part of the wider conversation around Wolves.

Thank you: Always Wolves

We also want to share a huge thank you to Always Wolves, who have financed the podcast, given us the opportunity to take up a broadcast slot on their channel, and introduced Girls in Old Gold to their audience of Wolves supporters. Support like this matters—because representation grows faster when people are willing to back it.

The story behind Girls in Old Gold

Girls in Old Gold is the brainchild of Emma Milton, who is passionate about empowering women. Having experienced sex discrimination in the workplace, Emma understands first-hand how destructive it can be—and how important it is to challenge sexism early, before it becomes normalised or escalates into discrimination.

Girls in Old Gold aims to help “nip sexism in the bud” by ensuring women have visibility, voice, and support—because when women are heard, football culture becomes better for everyone.

“Girls in Old Gold exists to make sure women’s voices at Wolves are heard, valued, and visible—because supporting this club should feel like belonging, not battling to be taken seriously.

I want every female who loves Wolverhampton Wanderers to know there’s a space for her here, whether you follow the men’s team or the women’s team, travel home and away, or you’re just finding your place in the fanbase.

I’ve seen first-hand how quickly everyday sexism can turn into discrimination, and the best way to stop that is to challenge it early—by giving women a platform, building confidence, and creating a community that has each other’s backs.

That’s why we’re starting with a podcast: to turn the volume up on women’s football conversations and show that Wolves fans’ passion and knowledge absolutely includes the women too.”
