Girls in Old Gold Statement: We Stand With Tolu Arokodare

We Stand With Tolu Arokodare

Football is emotional. Penalties can swing a match in seconds. Players feel that pressure more than any of us ever will.

But nothing, and we mean nothing, excuses racist abuse.

After Tolu Arokodare missed a penalty, he was targeted with racist comments online. That is disgusting. It is harmful. And it has no place in Wolves, in football, or in our community.

Missing a penalty is part of the game

Every striker misses. Every great player has a moment they want back. That is football.

What matters is what comes next. We support our players, we back them to respond, and we move forward together. We do not tear people down, and we do not attack someone’s identity, skin colour, or background.

Racism is not “banter”

Let’s be clear. Racist abuse is not passion. It is not humour. It is not “just the internet”.

It is abuse. It is intimidation. It is meant to shame and silence. And it hits harder because it follows players home, onto their phones, and into their families’ lives.

It is a small minority, but it is still serious

Most Wolves fans do not think like this. Most fans are angry about the abuse, not the miss. Most fans want our club to be a place where every player feels supported and safe.

We also need to say this: even if it is a small minority, it still matters. A few loud voices can cause real damage. Silence can make it feel normal. We will not let it become normal.

Wolves fans have Tolu’s back

To Tolu: you are not alone.

You wear Old Gold, and you represent our club. You deserve respect, protection, and support. You should be able to make mistakes, learn, and keep going like any other player.

Girls in Old Gold stands with you. Wolves fans have your back.

What we want to see next

Condemning abuse is the minimum. Action matters too. Here’s what we support:

  • Clear, public backing for the player from the club and the wider Wolves community.
  • Reporting and consequences for anyone posting racist abuse.
  • Stronger accountability online, including platform action and bans where possible.
  • A culture where fans call it out, every time, without hesitation.

Our values are not negotiable

At Girls in Old Gold, we want Wolves to feel like a club and a community where everyone belongs, players and fans alike. When racism shows up, even from a small minority, it hurts real people and it stains the game we love.

So this is us, together, drawing a clear line. We back Tolu, we reject racist abuse in all forms, and we choose to be louder with our support than anyone is with their hate.

There is no room for racism in Old Gold. Not now. Not ever.

We stand with Tolu Arokodare.
