Celebrating Women and Girls in Football: Our IWD2026 Story
International Women’s Day 2026 was one we will remember.
We had a full weekend of football, new connections, and so many women and girls enjoying the matchday experience.
From a big cup tie under the lights, to a brilliant Wolves Women win, we saw exactly why this group matters.
Friday night: Wolves vs Liverpool (Cup match)
Friday night was all about the next generation of fans. The stadium had a real family feel. There were loads of parents, kids, and first-time matchgoers soaking it all in.
Members of our leadership team were at the game:
- Sharing details about Girls in Old Gold
- Chatting with supporters about what we do
- Inviting women and girls to join our community
It was amazing to speak to so many people who want football to feel welcoming, safe, and fun for everyone.
Our website is now live
One of the biggest steps for us this IWD weekend is that our website is now live: girlsinoldgold.co.uk.
It’s the best place to:
- Learn what Girls in Old Gold is about
- Keep up with news, matchday moments, and events
- Find out how to join and get involved
- Access key links and updates in one place
If you spoke to us at the match, this is the easiest way to stay connected and share the group with a friend.
Announcing key partnerships
We also shared some important news across IWD weekend.
We are proud to announce partnerships with:
- Wolves Supporters Trust
- Her Game Too
And we are already a member of the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA).
These links matter. They help us reach more supporters, open more doors, and keep pushing for positive change in the stands and beyond.
Sharing our Girls in Old Gold video
A huge moment for us this weekend was sharing our new video for International Women’s Day.
It features 24 female Wolves fans, each sharing a simple message: you belong here.
The video introduces:
- Who we are
- Why we started
- What we want to build together
We shared it on X, Instagram, and for the first time, our new TikTok account.
The response has been unreal. It has been viewed and shared so many times, and the messages we have received have been so encouraging. Thank you to every single person who liked, reposted, commented, and sent it to a friend.
Happy International Women’s Day

Sunday: Wolves Women vs Derby (6-0 win)
On Sunday we headed to watch Wolves Women vs Derby, and what a day it was. Wolves ran out 6-0 winners, and the atmosphere was full of energy.
Our founder Emma, who is also the Her Game Too ambassador, joined a pitchside photo with the team in their HGT tops, alongside the Girls in Old Gold flag. It was a proud moment, and a strong image of what we want football to look like.
We also met loads of supporters, took photos with the flag, and had so many great conversations with people who are backing the group already.
Special shout out: Northycote FC
A special shout out goes to the brilliant young girls from Northycote FC, who had a fantastic day. They watched the match and also got to do a bit of training on the pitch. You could see how much it meant to them.
This is what it is all about.
What this weekend showed us
This weekend was busy, but it was worth it.
It showed us that:
- Women’s and girls’ football support is growing
- Fans want spaces where everyone feels welcome
- Visibility matters, especially for young girls seeing themselves represented
International Women’s Day is one day, but the work continues all year. We are excited for what comes next.
